About Ultrasounds

With the use of state-of-the-art technology, our team at Women’s Health at Valley View can provide ultrasounds for detailed images of your reproductive organs for various purposes throughout your life. During an ultrasound, the sound waves create an image of your reproductive system or baby. At our Glenwood Springs and Silt, CO locations, we also offer medically indicated 3D and 4D ultrasounds to provide patients with the treatment method that is best for their needs. These more advanced imaging options can allow our team to identify certain complications, as well as birth defects and abnormalities developed prior to birth. During your visits with our experts in each location, our OB/GYNs and certified nurse midwives will thoroughly explain your results and their impact on your treatment with us.

Treatment Details

At Women’s Health at Valley View, there are several options for the types of ultrasounds that may be performed for diagnostic purposes or during pregnancy. As a noninvasive procedure, an ultrasound can produce images used to ensure optimal health for women, as well as to monitor the development of your baby and your pregnancy’s progression. The types of ultrasounds we offer include:

  • Pelvic ultrasound: performed on the vaginal area and abdomen
  • Transabdominal ultrasound: performed on the abdomen and provides a 2D picture
  • 3D ultrasound: offers an improved visual over a standard ultrasound and can detect certain birth defects
  • 4D ultrasound: produces a video of the baby in the womb
  • Doppler ultrasound: used to assess the fetus’s blood vessels after a diagnosis of gestational diabetes
  • Transvaginal ultrasound: a “wand” or transducer is inserted into the vagina to provide an image during the early stages of pregnancy or to assess the health of reproductive organs

What to Expect

Prior to any type of diagnostic imaging, a member of our team will explain the process in detail so that you know what to expect. We may choose to perform an ultrasound to ensure optimal health when you are bleeding abnormally or during your pregnancy to keep a close eye on the development of your baby. At Women’s Health at Valley View, we understand that you may desire to have your loved ones alongside you during a pregnancy-related ultrasound or for support during a diagnostic ultrasound. If you wish to have your family members present during your ultrasound appointment, we encourage that you only invite immediate family in limited numbers. We will always work with you to provide the appropriate accommodations for you and your family during your ultrasound appointment.
