Urinary Disorders
About Urinary Disorders
With multiple different types of urinary disorders, bladder control can be greatly affected, causing frequent trips to the bathroom, leakage, or pain. Our specialists at Women’s Health at Valley View work with women to provide a thorough diagnosis and treatment option for a variety of urinary disorders that may be affecting their quality of life. There are several factors that can lead to a weakened or dysfunctional bladder, including:
- The aging process
- Dietary habits
- Pregnancy and childbirth
- Being overweight
- Having had a hysterectomy
- Certain physical activities
- Smoking
- A family history of urinary disorders
No matter the cause of your urinary issues, our board-certified OB/GYNs can help you find treatment to eradicate symptoms. Contact us in Glenwood Springs, Basalt, or Silt, CO to schedule a consultation and to learn more.
Symptoms of Urinary Disorders
There are a few ways to detect a urinary disorder, including evaluating your existing symptoms and your medical history. Additionally, a test known as “urodynamics” may be conducted to evaluate your urinary leakage and measure the pressure in your bladder. This test will help us to detect the following urinary conditions:
Urge Incontinence
Urge incontinence is identified by the loss of bladder control. Typically, individuals with this disorder will experience a strong urge to urinate that may make it difficult to make it to the toilet in time. A few factors that could lead to urge incontinence may include an infection, a neurologic disorder, or diabetes.
Stress Incontinence
Stress incontinence occurs when you experience frequent urine leakage. This is due to poor bladder closure and can cause issues when pressure is placed on the bladder, such as when exercising.
Interstitial Cystitis
Also known as painful bladder syndrome, interstitial cystitis may cause increased bladder pressure, resulting in both bladder and pelvic pain. This is due to a disruption in the signals that indicate when urine should be released. The cause of this condition is not always known but could be due to a bladder defect.

What to Expect
Before recommending more invasive forms of treatment, our team will typically start with more conservative treatment options. Depending on which urinary disorder you have and its severity, different procedures may be suggested.
