About Viridiana

Dr. Viridiana Estrada is a hospitalist at Valley View. She has been with the team since 2022, when she completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado— Denver under the Medical Leaders Pathway. She attained her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2019. She earned her Bachelor's Degree with Highest Honors from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she studied psychology and neuroscience.

Since finishing medical school, Dr. Estrada has sought incorporate her passion for preventative medicine, nutrition and technology into her care strategy. “In medical school, I focused my volunteer work on helping empower patients to take control of their own health and adopt a healthier lifestyle,” she says. Much of her volunteer work included seeing patients at a volunteer-run clinic, where she also ran nutrition workshops for the patients.

Though her path to finding her career within medicine was not direct, it led to finding her place within inpatient medicine. Specifically, the versatility of hospitalist work presented a serious draw for Dr. Estrada. “I find my work stimulating and love the diversity and scope of medicine that we get as hospitalists. There are so many factors to consider, especially in a rural setting. Our team is a large part of what brings joy to our everyday—any time you need a second opinion on a complicated case, it’s great to have so many talented physicians available to weigh in and help each other discuss unique and personalized patient care.”

Expanding her work to the administrative tasks continues to provide Dr. Estrada with an outlet to address medically-adjacent interests. For example, she enjoys editing EMR note templates and order sets to increase her team’s efficiency and quality of care. Today, Dr. Estrada’s practice continues to evolve thanks to the technology at her disposal. The outpatient providers are using AI to create transcripts from patient conversations. She is helping to facilitate its transition to the inpatient world. “The use of AI is helping revisit conversations and consolidate information. It’s still very early in the process, but there’s an exciting use of technology there that helps us do our jobs better.”

In addition, Dr. Estrada and her husband enjoy camping, kayaking, and the many other outdoor activities Colorado provides. They are very fond of the hot springs and dining scene that Glenwood Springs has to offer.
