About Stephen
Stephen Williams, MD, is the newest member of Valley View’s Rocky Mountain Urology Center. Dr. Williams is a urologist who is specially trained in urologic oncology. He is thrilled to be a member of our medical community.
Dr. Williams was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (and remains an avid Philadelphia sports fan). After completing his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, he attended medical school at Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Williams went on to the University of California, Davis School of Medicine to complete a six-year urology residency program. Dr. Williams additionally completed a two-year fellowship program at the University of Southern California, Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles, where he specialized in the surgical treatments of urologic cancers. He has since built his career of 22 years providing care for patients with prostate, bladder, testicular and kidney cancers, in addition to other general urology concerns.
Dr. Williams has previously been on the faculty of several medical institutions and served in leadership roles both in northern and southern California. Prior to joining Valley View, he spent 10 years as director of urologic oncology for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group.
Dr. Williams and his wife, Lori, have recently relocated from southern California to the Roaring Fork Valley. While they have only been here for a short amount of time, they are already feeling at home and are thrilled to be living in such a beautiful, perfectly sized and caring community. “We’ve met so many incredibly nice people both at Valley View and in the community at large.”
Dr. William’s philosophy of care involves creating long-term and rewarding relationships with his patients. “I love urology because we are involved in the entire spectrum of patient care,” he says. “We establish the diagnosis, and are then able to offer an array of treatments – both medical and surgical -and provide all of the follow up care. In the case of patients diagnosed with cancer, their post-treatment care can last years, so we really get to know our patients along their journey.”
Dr. Williams is a former collegiate athlete and exercise continues to remain a high priority in his life. What better place to live, in which this balance of life can exist! He especially loves to golf, play tennis, hike, ski, practice yoga and play and listen to music (he’s known to play music in the operating room to create a comfortable environment for his patients and staff, with patient permission, of course). He and his wife look forward to becoming active members of the community, while once again enjoying the beauty and appeal of living among the four seasons.
