About Stephen
Stephen Ferraro, MD is a hospitalist at Valley View. Originally from Spokane, Wash., he earned his medical degree from the University of Washington and completed his internal medicine residency at University of Colorado.
“As a hospitalist I am able to perform hands-on care,” says Dr. Ferraro. “We handle full-spectrum medicine – both the procedures and the thinking behind it. I’ve always been had an affinity to science and a fascination with human nature, so the opportunity to apply those interests in a way that improves peoples’ lives was what really drew me to medicine.”
When working with patients, Dr. Ferraro’s approach is centered around access and building trust, removing barriers and establishing a relationship.
Dr. Ferraro is particularly committed to the Spanish-speaking population. He is fluent in Spanish and was the former co-host of a Spanish-speaking medical podcast called “Los Vatos Medicos.” In rural Washington Dr. Ferraro worked at a primary care clinic focusing on diabetes care for the Spanish speaking population. “That experience gave me the opportunity to meet people, help them and give back to the community. That’s the rewarding part of the job.”
For his work with this underserved community, Dr. Ferraro was awarded the Osler Award for Medical Student Humanitarianism awarded to medical students who exemplify “compassionate, personalized medical care that emphasized the doctor/patient relationship.”
Looking for a healthy work/life balance, Dr. Ferraro moved to Glenwood Springs in 2024 to join the Valley View team and spends his time skiing in winter, road and mountain biking and golfing in summer, as well as yoga year-round.
