About Michael

Michael Duehrssen, MD is a physician at the Wound Care Center at Valley View. His career has taken him across the west, with stints as an emergency room physician in Cortez, CO; medical director and professor at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska; and director of trauma at Grand River Hospital in Rifle. He received his Bachelor of Arts in biology from Union College and attended medical school at Loma Linda University’s School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California.

Dr. Duehrssen’s medical experience runs a wide gamut—he has developed medical programs for local police departments, developed emergency helicopter programs, created EMS protocols, and overseen emergency room construction.

Outside of work, Dr. Duehrssen’s interests include skiing, high-altitude climbing, rock climbing, running, mountain biking, scuba diving, rafting, and canyoneering. He has participated in community service around the world, acting as a first responder and medical team member in India, Myanmar, Jamaica, Mozambique, and Malawi, among other places.

Dr. Duehrssen was raised in Rifle and currently lives in Moab with his wife of 34 years, Susan. Together they have two daughters.
