About Matthew

Dr. Breland has long been an enthusiast of the outdoors, with previous passions including road and mountain biking, running, hiking, kayaking, and fishing. He and his wife, a veterinarian, have four children ranging in age from 10 to 1, as well as several pets. “When we first visited the Valley, we fell in love with the small towns, the close-knit feel, the friendliness of the people we met, and, of course, the scenery,” he says. “Since I was a kid, I have wanted to live in the mountains in a place like this. We immediately felt that this could be our new home, and we sensed the esprit de corps. After several years living in the Houston area, we were ready! And although until recently I knew nothing of the Roaring Fork Valley, once we visited and began talking about it, we discovered quite a few connections that we had to people in the area, all of whom had nothing but good things to say.” The family look forward to finding their place here and to enjoying the many opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Dr. Matt Breland is a Diagnostic Radiologist who recently completed subspecialty training in Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Imaging. A native of Mobile, Alabama, he studied Mechanical Engineering at Auburn University and Georgia Tech and briefly worked in industry before deciding to pursue a career in medicine. After Medical School at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, he did his Residency at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston/MD Anderson Cancer Center before returning to Birmingham for the Alabama Orthopedic Imaging fellowship program. He is enthralled with the study and practice of Radiology and is grateful for the opportunity to join Mountain Radiology, PC and the Valley View staff. He says, “I am lucky to have joined a practice in which everyone is committed to providing the highest quality services to our patients and referring physicians and to offering a broad range of services so that our friends and neighbors can get the best care close to home. As a bonus, it happens to be in Glenwood Springs!”
