About Maria
Dr. Maria Dungo is a hematologist oncologist, specializing in cancers of the breast at the Calaway-Young Cancer Center at Valley View. She is triple board-certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology. She earned her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed her residency in internal medicine at University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, followed by a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Dungo is a visiting doctor at Valley View and also holds positions practicing breast oncology at Long Beach Memorial’s Todd Cancer Center and at the Los Alamitos Hematology and Oncology Medical Group. She also served both as program director for the Medical Oncology and Hematology Fellowship Program and as associate professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, where she was honored with the Distinguished Teaching Award.
Her past research has focused on the treatment of patients with high-risk, triple negative breast cancer, postmenopausal women’s risk for breast cancer and the effects of calcium and vitamin D supplementation in breast cancer risk.
