About Lindsay
Lindsay Southgate, MD has been a hospitalist at Valley View Hospital since 2022. She completed her internal medicine residence in Portland, Oregon, after earning her doctor of medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. Prior to that, she completed a dual major in biology and kinesiology from San Diego State University in 2013.
When she and her husband visited the Roaring Fork Valley for the first time, they knew this was the place for them. “It was just immediate, our love for the place,” she says. Valley View is also a perfect fit for Dr. Southgate thanks to its “big little hospital” ambiance. “As hospitalists here, we get to practice higher acuity medicine than we would at a larger hospital. We get to co-treat with other departments which expands our horizons and allows for a very stimulating day-to-day experience.”
Dr. Southgate’s approach to care is, in part, rooted in her own interest in athletics. “I appreciate functionality,” she says. “A lot of healing comes from helping people to find their baseline, introducing them to things they’re comfortable doing, and then guiding them as they work towards their goals. Much of this involves physical activity, which I see as fundamental.”
Dr. Southgate lives in Glenwood Springs with her husband and daughter. They are lifelong skiers and snowboarders and have recently taken up backcountry skiing. During the summer, they love rafting and kayaking, as well as soaking in our local hot springs. Volunteer work is another of her passions. Dr. Southgate has helped establish clinics in a number of underserved countries, including Panama and Ghana, and looks forward to resuming this work in the future.
