About Kelly

Kelly O’Brien is a nurse practitioner at the Calaway•Young Cancer Center. She graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing from Michigan State University in 2005. In 2011, she earned a Master of Science as an adult nurse practitioner, followed by a post-master’s certificate as an acute care nurse practitioner in 2014, both at University of Colorado College of Nursing. Kelly worked at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Blood Disorders Center as a nurse practitioner since 2012, accumulating experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, working primarily with blood cancer patients and cellular therapy. She also helped lead education and onboarding for over four years, organized educational resources and clinical activities, and developed an onboarding curriculum for new advanced practice providers.

Kelly’s passion lies in improving her patients’ lives using the most current treatment options available. “There are new treatments and therapies that are more targeted and less toxic than traditional chemotherapy, and that’s very exciting to me,” she says. “We are now able to provide personalized treatments and therapies that improve care, comfort, and outcomes for each individual.”

Kelly lives with her husband, son, and their dog. The family loves mountain biking and running local trails, usually all together. The family enjoys traveling, with camping in Iceland, Portugal, and Switzerland being favorite recent adventures.
