About Juliana

Juliana Oliveira, DO is a board-certified family medicine physician at Silt Family Practice. She completed her undergraduate degree at Cornell University and her medical degree at the Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, CO. She finished her residency in full spectrum family medicine at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC, a large multidisciplinary hospital serving approximately 1.4 million people across 29 counties in eastern North Carolina. She comes to Valley View most recently from academia, serving as an associate program director and clinical faculty at the University of New Mexico Department of Family and Community Medicine in Albuquerque. Dr. Oliveira was born in Brazil and grew up in North Carolina. “I love to cook, and growing up, food and family were so important in our house,” she says. “I learned to cook from my mother, and my sister earned her degree in hospitality from Boston University. Food is all-encompassing for me, and that passion provides a great way for me to connect with my patients. Understanding patients’ customs and culture though food helps me to meet them where they are.” Dr. Oliveira is a full-spectrum practitioner. “I enjoy getting to know entire families of patients, from grandparents to grandchildren,” she says. “Taking care of whole families is the most rewarding part of what I do.” Dr. Oliveira also provides prenatal care, an important additional service to the community. She is looking forward to “not only delivering babies but bonding with families both before and after delivery.” In addition to maternity care, Dr. Oliveira’s clinical interests include women’s health, pediatrics, adolescent health, office procedures, management of chronic disease such as high blood pressure and diabetes, hepatitis C treatment and addiction medicine. Dr. Oliveira is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. She is excited to use her language skills at Silt Family Practice where she can get to know her patients in the context of their families and communities. Dr. Oliveira and her husband are both physicians at Valley View (her husband, Eric Gochanour, MD, works as a gastroenterologist.) She plans to take on some volunteer work as she settles into her community. “I’m not sure what I’ll be doing yet, but there’s no better way to become part of my patients’ lives,” she says. “In the past, I’ve done everything from working at free clinics with medical students to teaching cooking classes, so I’m open to about anything.”
