About Izaak
Izaak (Ike) Fitzgerald is a physician assistant with the Spine Center at Valley View. He has worked as a physician assistant in the Roaring Fork Valley since 2006, with a focus on orthopedic medicine throughout much of that time. He earned his bachelor of science in biology from the University of Kentucky in 2002 before moving on to complete his master of physician assistant studies at Marquette University in 2006.
Ike’s long experience in orthopedics makes him a natural fit with the Spine Center. “The team at the Spine Center is so inviting and positive. I saw a great opportunity to broaden my horizons while working with some really great people,” he says. “I love to challenge myself, and the opportunity to learn and grow here was a huge motivator.”
Ike has an intense interest in outdoor sports, a passion that carries over in how he relates to his patients. “Taking care of our bodies is so important, and helping people do what they want to do—regardless of what that is, how intense or simple it might be—that’s an important part of my job,” he says. “My own training has shown me how important goal setting is, and how vital it can be in a medical context.”
Ike lives in the Roaring Fork Valley with his wife and daughter, and loves the number of adventures that wait right outside his back door. Not that he limits his adventures to the Valley—in fact, Ike recently completed a coast-to-coast bike ride from San Diego to Tybee Island, GA. “My brother did it 20 years ago, so I was following in his footsteps,” he says. “Dipped a tire in the Pacific, then again in the Atlantic six weeks later. Just an incredible way to see the country!”
