Garrett Caputo, MD specializes in treatment of chronic, slow-healing wounds at Valley View’s Wound Care Center. After practicing in New Hampshire and Montana, Dr. Caputo came to practice in Rifle, Colorado in 2013. He received his board certification in wound care in 2015 and has been practicing in this exciting, evolving field ever since.

Wound care is a new specialty, one that Dr. Caputo is passionate about trailblazing. “Wound care requires a lot of hands-on time with patients, in order to really learn about their conditions,” he says. Dr. Caputo’s commitment to master the field means he practices the newest techniques.

“Our patients usually come to us after trying a number of other avenues,” he continues. “We successfully address these problems that have seemed unsolvable to them, and the high success rate we see gives them a lot of hope. That’s really the best part of it for us.”

And when Dr. Caputo says “us,” he means it—his wife Debra is also his partner in the clinic, and she is an accomplished clinician in her own right. “I generally do the medical diagnosing, while she does the treatment and rehabilitation,” he says. “She specializes in geriatrics, which covers most of our patients. She has a great handle on what they can and can’t do, which allows us to suggest the best treatments for each patient.”

The Caputos came to Colorado for a good reason. “We left New England to get away from the cold, mostly,” he says. “But out here also we’re close to both the mountains and the desert, which we love.” In the desert (Utah mostly), they engage in another favorite pastime: riding and training Paso Fino horses, a beautiful breed best known for its grace and prowess on wilderness trails. In addition, Dr. Caputo and his wife are social ballroom dancers and regularly cut rugs up and down the Roaring Fork Valley.
