About Bob

Bob Etemad, MD, is a multi-board-certified, advanced interventional endoscopist at the Gastrointestinal Center at Valley View. He earned his medical degree from Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He completed two fellowships, one in gastroenterology at University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in advanced endoscopy at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Prior to joining Valley View, Dr. Etemad held positions as medical director of endoscopy at Main Line Health and director of interventional endoscopy at Jefferson University Hospital and clinical associate professor of medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He also served as chief of gastroenterology and hepatology at Ochsner Clinic Foundation.

When working with patients, Dr. Etemad believes that each patient deserves the time and expertise of excellent caregivers, despite a patient’s geography or fiscal condition. “It is our responsibility to provide broad access to care, and it is important that the community understand their resources for care, no matter where they are coming from. Chronic conditions need regular care, and acute conditions need access to emergent care. It’s important they have a facility and specialty services in each one of those specialty areas,” he says.

At Valley View, Dr. Etemad handles complex interventional endoscopy procedures, providing services relating to the natural orifices of the human directional track, and organs of the abdomen, chest or pelvis. He often is able to fix issues without the need for a surgical scar such as pancreatic and bile duct disease, gastro-intestinal cancers, Barrett’s Esophagus and other complex GI-related diseases.

Dr. Etemad is a strong advocate for the prevention of cancer in the intestinal track, and advocates for early detection. “In the gastroenterology field, my direction towards healthy diet and nutritional practices start very early in life,” he says. He works to raise community awareness of colon cancer screening availability, ensures patients are familiar with their family history, those with history to meet with geneticist as a part of colorectal cancer prevention.

Dr. Etemad has been named to more than a dozen faculty and hospital positions and is was named to “Best Doctors” lists in both New Orleans and Philadelphia. He received the Surgical Teaching Award from the Lankenau Medical Center and has been elected as a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterology Association and the American College of Gastroenterology, among others.

Originally from Philadelphia, Dr. Etemad moved to the Roaring Fork Valley in 2024. Outside of work, Dr. Etemad is an avid gardener and enjoys hiking and traveling. He plays the piano and guitar, is an avid reader of history and art history, and advocates for food and housing security on the Western Slope.
