About Alexandra

Alexandra Bratschie is a midwife for Women’s Health at Valley View, having joined the team in late 2021. She received her Master of Science from Georgetown University in 2013, and is a Certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, as well as a certified Nurse Midwife. Before coming to VVH, Alex worked within Michigan’s Spectrum Health Residency Practice system, providing team-based OB/GYN care in both inpatient and outpatient environments.

“I love the opportunity that every visit offers,” she says. “When it comes to pregnancy, everything is very individualized, and all pregnancies are completely unique. Even if you’ve seen the same situation a few times, the personalities are different, and the way women experience their pregnancies is always their own. In the best circumstances, I get to care for these women and their children past the pregnancy too, which is just incredibly rewarding.”

Alex doesn’t believe that her work ends when she leaves the clinic, either. “My job is to understand policy and advocate for women in that space, just as much as it is to assist in clinical settings,” she says. “I’m involved in policy change that supports women and their families, encouraging them to be active participants in their own care. Putting best practices into action is a real passion of mine, and I think women benefit when they are fully educated in regard to their choices, and then have full access to those choices.”

Alex lives in Eagle with her husband and her children, as well as a two-year-old rescue husky named Kali. “Like so many people living here, we love spending time outside in the sun,” she says. “Hiking, biking, running—anything we can do together outdoors, we are into it.”

In addition, she is in the process of starting up her very own podcast, Together Alone! “It’s a mix of shared personal stories and experiences like The Moth, mixed with some background on the topic from the hosts and expert guests,” she says. “Ultimately, it’s an attempt to bring people together, to allow them to connect through their shared experience and learn from one another.”
