Valley View Imaging makes significant upgrades to both CT and MRI technology

GE-Revolution Apex MachineValley View Imaging recently made significant upgrades to its cache of imaging equipment and software with a markedly advanced GE Revolution Apex Machine, a 256-slice CT scanner and the introduction of MRI upgrades featuring AirReconDL software and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. By embracing state-of-the-art technology, Valley View Imaging is ensuring patients benefit from the latest in imaging innovation, setting the standard for care in the region.

Moving from the 64-slice scanner to the new 256-slice CT scanner means more anatomy can be scanned in one rotation of the X-ray tube. This makes scans faster, allowing imaging procedures for specialty cases, including children, to be a more comfortable and efficient experience as possible.

Additional highlights of the new 256-slice CT scanner include:

  • Whole organ coverage
  • Whole brain imaging in one rotation
  • Single heart beat imaging from five-heartbeat scan
  • Enhanced lesion visualization
  • Faster trauma scanning
  • Metal Artifact Reduction (MAR): better visualization of anatomy where metal is present
  • Faster Pediatric scanning while maintaining low dose level
  • Table load = 500lbs

“We have made significant advancement to cardiac imaging in our valley. This is on par, if not superior, to the imaging found on the Front Range,” says Valley View Radiologist, Dr. Matthew Breland.

Artist-MRI-with-AirReconDLFor MRI, the Artist AirReconDL was installed on the 1.5T MRI magnet. Using the same MRI machines in place with upgraded hardware and software, this artificial intelligence (AI) program is continuously learning and allows for faster scan times and improved image quality, rivaling 3T magnet image quality. Time on table has been decreased, with longest scan times being one hour, reduced from 1.5 hours. Additionally, Valley View Imaging’s MRI now has flexible air coils, allowing for more positioning options and providing greater comfort for patients.

Imaging plays a pivotal role in the complete care approach at Valley View, offering critical support to various medical departments including oncology, orthopedics and cardiology. In oncology, the MRI upgrades allow radiologists to see smaller lesion clarity in prostate, for example. ValleyOrtho relies on both CT and MRI imaging services for accurate diagnosis and treatment or surgical planning. For cardiology, this new technology can capture the heart in a single heartbeat, reducing risk of motion that interferes with an image.

As is the standard of care at Valley View, all imaging patients can discuss the process of imaging with the team before entering MRI or CT scanner. Each patient is provided details on what to expect, moment by moment. In the MRI machine, warm blankets, headphones, music and leg support are offered for comfort.

“We want our patients to be confident they will be cared for in a safe environment,” says Valley View Imaging Director, Jen Plough. “We do everything we can to meet patients where they are, and all of our technologists are certified and committed to working in a safe environment that is in the best interest for those they care for.”

Valley View Imaging is also committed to providing equitable access to essential diagnostic care, ensuring financial constraints do not prevent patients from receiving the care and screenings they need. Its competitive pricing is some of the lowest in the region, and Valley View is the only imaging center in the Roaring Fork Valley offering extended hours with weekend and evening appointments available.
