Calaway•Young Cancer Center’s Emily Piper Awarded Ribbon of Hope
Congratulations to Emily Piper, RN, BSN, OCN, who was recently awarded the Dr. Gary Peterson Ribbon of Hope award. The award honors and celebrates the many acts of heroism and compassion performed by Valley View staff who care for cancer patients. Recipients demonstrate an extraordinary level of care, going beyond their role as providers.
The award is the idea and commitment of two remarkable members of the Roaring Fork community: The late Dr. Gary Peterson and Nancy Peterson. The Ribbon of Hope Award reflects Gary’s legacy of supporting the men and women who every day provide direct care to cancer patients. This year, Calaway•Young Cancer Center Director Hans Lindbloom, RN presented the award alongside Valley View Foundation Executive Director and Chief Community Relations Officer Stacey Gavrell, MHA, CFRE.
In his remarks, Hans shared the following, “Emily has been a nurse in medical oncology at the Calaway•Young Cancer Center for five years now. She is a mentor, a frontline leader, and a strong advocate for patients, nurses, and the quality of our program. Her hard work and dedication inspire excellence in herself, her coworkers, and the entire center. Furthermore, her knowledge of cancer care is incredible and she consistently uses this knowledge to identify issues, come up with ideas to correct them, and implement solutions.
Yet what makes Emily unique is her extraordinary passion for providing excellent care to our patients. She always focuses on patients first, making sure they receive the best care available. She is the first person that they call when they have a question about their care or if they develop a concern, and she is the rock-solid team member that they rely on day in and day out.”
Emily has not only been honored with the Ribbon of Hope Award but will also benefit from a professional development scholarship donated by the Petersons.
Congratulations Emily on this well-deserved honor.
