GLENWOOD SPRINGS, COLO. ― Valley View, an independent, nonprofit health system based in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, offering the most comprehensive care in the Valley, is proud to welcome hand & wrist surgeon Michael Potter, MD to ValleyOrtho, part of the Valley View family.
Dr. Potter joins the ValleyOrtho team at Valley View, comprised of Ferdinand “Tito” Liotta, MD; Christopher George, MD; Michael Grillot, MD; Chad Mahan, MD; Noel Armstrong, DPM; Tomas Pevny, MD; and Mark Purnell, MD. Dr. Potter will see patients out of Valley View in Glenwood Springs, Eagle Healthcare in Eagle, Silt Healthcare in Silt and Willits Healthcare in Basalt. The team’s areas of expertise include knee, hip, shoulder, sports medicine, joint replacement and revisions, hand, wrist and elbow.
A board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic hand surgeon, Dr. Potter provides specialty care of all conditions of the hand and upper extremity, including trauma and problems of the wrist and elbow. He also provides on-call care for lower extremity trauma and general orthopedic issues.
Dr. Potter comes to Valley View most recently from Charlottesville, Virginia, where he practiced hand and orthopedic surgery at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital for the last five years. He did fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Stanford University in Stanford, California; and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated with honors from Duke University Medical School in Durham, North Carolina; and earned a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in molecular biology from Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey.
Dr. Potter was first drawn to orthopedics because of his athletic background and his interest in bones, joints, and caring for active individuals. He brings pragmatism and empathy to his practice philosophy. “I try to meet people where they are,” he said. “My approach is to listen and understand first, and then provide counseling and guidance.”
Dr. Potter and his wife, an anesthesiologist, have twin toddlers. They were drawn to Colorado by family who live on the Front Range, and by their mutual love of the Intermountain West and the outdoor recreation and lifestyle it offers.
“In working to continuously add quality care for our patients, we are pleased to have Dr. Potter join ValleyOrtho and Valley View’s dedicated group of providers,” said Brian Murphy, MD, CEO of Valley View. “He is very highly regarded in orthopedics and represents Valley View’s core values: patients first, safety, quality, service, accountability, community and teamwork.”
