Throughout the month of May, Valley View nurses will trade in their scrubs for hardhats and tool belts once a week to help Habitat for Humanity build two duplexes for four local families in Silt. Valley View nurses’ volunteer effort is in honor of National Nurses Week. The nurses decided that they wanted to give back to the community through a community service project – not just for a week, but for a month.

“This year’s Nurses Week at Valley View is about giving back and Habitat for Humanity has had such a positive impact in our community – we knew that a community service project with Habitat would be a great fit,” said Nancy Billington, Administrative Director Patient Care Perioperative Services.

While hospitals and healthcare organizations pause to give thanks to nurses for their contributions to the health of their communities, Valley View nurses are finding new ways to give back, while strengthening relationships. “Volunteering gives us an opportunity to work together interdepartmentally,” said Nancy Billington. “It’s a time where we can enjoy being together, being ourselves and relaxing while building unity within the nursing community.”
