February 5, 2017, GLENWOOD SPRINGS, COLO — Registered nurses Niki Arnhold and Pat Trauger have been recognized as Colorado Health Care Stars by the Colorado Hospital Association and American Sentinel University. The statewide award program acknowledges clinical professionals who exceed expectations in the delivery of healthcare in Colorado.
Niki Arnhold was nominated by Mic Zywiec, Director of the Family Birthplace at Valley View Hospital. “Niki does so much to benefit patients, providers and staff,” said Zywiec. “She’s a front line nurse, dedicated to patient care, and she brings that perspective to her role as a staff leader.”
Arnhold expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve a dual role as a nurse and as an educator. “I love working with patients and seeing ways to improve their experience on all levels,” she said. “I’m fortunate to be able to work as a liaison to turn good ideas into even better patient care.”
Pat Trauger was nominated by Director of Endoscopy, Deb Willet. “Pat has worked in every single department at Valley View Hospital,” said Willet. “Her broad knowledge and ongoing relationships have allowed endoscopy to coordinate with other departments to make patient transitions seamless.”
Trauger’s co-worker, Shelly Tellio-Kolish, RN, added that Trauger has been both a mentor and a model of care and compassion. “Her professionalism and sense of humor have inspired me to be a better nurse,” she said.
Colorado Health Care Stars are selected from hospitals across the state, and winners are awarded $100 gift certificates in recognition of their contributions. This year’s CHCS recipients are invited to an awards banquet to be held at The Palate Food and Wine Bar in Greenwood Village on Monday, March 27. Attending winners will be entered into a drawing to win a full tuition scholarship for an advanced healthcare degree at American Sentinel University.
“To get this recognition was such a surprise,” said Trauger, who retired from Valley View Hospital in May 2016 after 47 years as a registered nurse.
Arnhold was equally surprised by the award. “I had no idea this was coming,” she said. “It’s always been my passion to work in women’s health. To have the opportunity to zone in on that area and keep advancing my career has been such a great experience.”
